I have mentioned these guys before, but I’ll mention them again, the EFTHQ did a series on optimizing indicators and having them compete against one another for the purpose of selecting the indicator that will get youthe most gains with the least effort. For moving average crosses they prefer the EMA over SMA, and the daily timeframe over the weekly, and settings of 13 for your fast EMA and 48 for your slow EMA. I am going for a somewhat middle ground with the 3d chart with the simple justification that they did their research on non-crypto markets and my own SWAG.

The chart history on ETHUSD is clear. The furthermost left chart shows early 2016 beginning with 3d golden cross of the 13 and 48 EMA leading to a parabolic advance ad a 9.7x return from the cross to the next touch of the 48 EMA. In that instance the 48 was a floor that held on for about out four months before the price had a major correction.
The middle chart shows another golden cross and a massive advance until the next tough of the 48 happening after a 15x gain. We don’t close below the 48 until a x3.5 from our original x15.
The golden cross upon ETHUSD suggest a parabolic advance is likely to occur. I am of the mind it will be greater than the last two (so greater than x15) on account of greater adoption of crypto and I think this will signal a 2-3 year run like we have had previously. But even if we don’t get that advance I would settle for a lesser advance, even one less than x9. There are still a lot of wicks that can blow out people over-margined and some 50% retracements so it isn’t like you are invincible in this environment. There is also the chance the EMA cross will fail on the precipice of victory.
But this system is hard to mess up. Buy and sell the crosses. Or buy the cross, sell when we have a candle close bellow the 13D. Short the death cross. Not financial advice, just going over simple moving average trading systems.
