Black Sheep

I only started learning Finance and Markets 9 months ago so please don't take any of my ramblings as financial advice.
I am a black sheep just like VIAC here.

I got into the markets because of GME but stayed because of VIAC.

The market is vastly more complex and ruthless than I ever imagined.

It really is a virtual playground for a lifetime gamer like me.

With multiplayer pvp (player vs player) games you have to protect every scrap of resources you can while trying to survive endless dangers.

That reminds me of an Ultima Online story.

One day while practicing in-game abilities around a protected vendor, a friend & I witnessed a player dropping a pile of gold on the ground, which was more money than either of us had to our name, the player then took a step and picked up the gold and tossed it forward another step, and repeated this gold walk all the way to the bank.

We stood there in shock at what we witnessed. The player returned from the bank, only 20-30 gold steps away from the storefront, and dropped another pile of gold then started the gold walk again.

We quickly realized he was overburdened by the weight of gold he was moving from the store to the bank and that he was selling something for more money than we could imagine. We had to ask him, whats with the gold walk, tell us your secret.

He was proud to stop, a pile of gold at his feet that was heavier than either of us could carry, and explain he was robbing the store with a glitch he had found.

A glitch you say, tell us more, we would like to understand it to use it to our advantage as well. The player did not hesitate to explain in the simplest terms to us what he was doing.

He would start with the most expensive item he owned and sell it to the npc (non-player-character) in a bag. The vendor would give him the gold for the item in the bag, but return the bag with the item as well.

Brilliant. So easy we were going to be rich instantly! We quickly learned the glitch and started selling the biggest ticket items we could, deeds for land. Soon we learned vendors only carried so much gold and had to reset everyday or only had the amount of gold they were given for sales.

As we built our fortunes, others noticed, and we also shared the secret glitch with amazed onlookers as we gold walked from vendors to banks through all the cities in the game.

Soon we had a server-wide liquidity crisis and we later learned the glitch had spread to all the vendors on all the servers.

You couldn’t sell anything to a vendor because they never had any money except after a reset.
