The trend is your friend here.

It does look like January will be a good month after all. MACD finally > 0, so new uptrend established. I figure the NASDAQ probably has a good 5% more before the end of January. Let's ride this trend for some upswing.

TQQQ in at 44.70. Target = $49 (if NASDAQ 100 goes up 3%).

Little bit of sell off here today. This is not unexpected given the recent run-up, and current events (US government shut down, trade talks, etc). Note that QQQ (and TQQQ and QLD) are very close to the 13-day EMA. Can either:
1) Expect a bounce UP from 13-day EMA (which is $41.60 -- let's say $42, approx 161 on QQQ)
2) Break down below 13-day EMA, and possible retrace to 50% of recent lows (which was at QQQ 144, so 50% retracement = (144 + 166 ) / 2 = 155 QQQ. That's (7/162) = 4.3% below QQQ price now. That's 4.3 * 3 = 12.9% lower for TQQQ. That's approx $36.55 on TQQQ.

Let's wait another day or two to see what happens.

After being underwater for most of the week on this trade, I closed my position for very very slight gain (almost break-even). If I had some more guts I'd stay long, but I'm playing it very safe here.
There seems to be a double-top at $45-ish level on TQQQ (that's 166 on QQQ) so I'm going to wait to see what happens next. I'm keeping an eye on that 13-day EMA as an entry point (around $42.50).
The price of gold keeps going up, TLT is still high and VIX is still a bit on the high side, so still some fear out there, believe it or not.
Stay safe!
